Save yourself the trouble of frozen, bursting water pipes this winter by following some tips:
If there are water lines in your garage, keep the doors closed.
Open kitchen & bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing.
In frigid temperatures outside, keep cold water dripping from the faucet served by exposed pipes.
Close all windows near water pipes.
Keep your thermostat set at the same temperature during the day and night.
If you will be away during cold weather, leave the heat on in your home, no lower than 55 degrees.
Wrap pipes nearest exterior walls with insulation or heating tape. Even newspaper wrapped around a pipe will help to insulate as long as there is no heat source near the pipes.
Heat your basement and consider weather-sealing windows.
