Many New Yorkers have stopped paying utility bills because the State placed a moratorium on utility shut-offs due to lack of payment. The BPU, in March, 2020, itself decided not to disconnect services during the height of the Pandemic.
New Yorkers who haven't paid their utility bills, however, are in danger of disconnections once New York State lifts the moratorium and utilities such as the BPU will be forced to resume shut-offs.
