- Water Concern
Should you have a water concern regarding your water service, please call our Customer Service Office during business hours and follow the prompts. A Customer Service representative will listen to your problem and send an employee to investigate the issue.
If you have a water emergency such as a main break after business hours, please call our 24-hour emergency line at 716-661-1640. Signs of a water main break could be low water pressure, discolored water and/or a continual wet spot in the road or sidewalk area. In winter, you may notice an area where snow has melted in the road or yard. A service person will be sent to check on the problem.
Discolored water is water that has been stirred inside the water main when the main is open, carrying pieces of minerals and sediment with it. These deposits will settle down once a water main is repaired and closed. The discolored water could take 12-24 hours to clear.
Should you draw discolored water into your clothes washer, do not dry the clothes, but instead rewash them when the water has settled using one of the commercial rust removers available in local grocery or hardware stores. The BPU Customer Service Office provides a free rust remover to our water customers who experience this problem. Village and Town offices served by BPU water also have the rust remover available for our water customers.
