Electric Flex Rate (Service Classification 6)
The Board of Public Utilities (BPU) offers the Electric Service Classification No. 6, known as the “SC-6” or “Flex Rate” program, as an economic and business development tool utilized to help retain industrial customers in our electric territory. The program is available to assist larger-sized companies by slightly reducing their electrical costs.
The requirements for SC-6 include:
- Agreement to the terms of the BPU’s standard contract
- The company must be an electric customer of the utility
- The company must be one of the approved North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) classifications:
- Administrative or support services
- Information
- Management of companies and enterprises
- Manufacturing
- Professional, scientific or technical services
- Real estate, rental and leasing
- Regional warehousing or storage
- Wholesale trade
- Consume more than 400 kilowatts (kW) demand
- Export half of traded goods/services outside Chautauqua County
- Have a load factor greater than 45%
- Invest annually in their business
- Maintain or add more than twenty-five jobs per megawatt (MW)
- Meet with utility representatives annually
