To start the process, a 200 horsepower hydraulic starter motor begins to spin the high pressure compressor, which in turn drives the low pressure side, drawing air into the engine. This air is directed by stationary blades into spinning blades which compress the air and direct it to the next set of blades occupying a smaller space. The air spins through the low pressure compressor increasing in speed, pressure and density as it travels through each stage.
