The Board of Public Utilities presently employs 155 people. Positions range from various types of engineers to electric linemen, laborers, wastewater treatment operators and clerk typists. Most positions at the BPU are Competitive under the Civil Service Laws and are filled from certified lists of candidates provided by the Jamestown Civil Service Commission. Open competitive examinations for certain categories of positions are given periodically. Advertisements notifying the public of the test dates are published in the classified section of the local newspaper. Candidates may obtain application forms to take the test at the office of: Fourth Floor, Municipal Building Jamestown, NY 14701 The electric and water employees are represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 459. The Wastewater Treatment Operators are represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 106.
