Transmission/Distribution ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

The City of Jamestown Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer in its Transmission and Distribution Division. The BPU is a New York State municipal utility serving approximately 20,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in the Jamestown, NY area at voltages from 4.16Kv to 115Kv. The Utility operates a coal and gas fired power plant, 10 sub stations and an interconnection to the National Grid 115KV system.

Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least one academic course in knowledge and theory of electrical transmission and distribution systems. Applicants must have at least four years of experience in electricity distribution or a related field. Advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering and/or a Professional Engineer certification are desirable, as is additional experience.

The successful candidate will report to the Transmission and Distribution Manager, and will have primary responsibility for the design, construction and maintenance of electrical distribution infrastructure. The successful candidate will work with Line Department Supervisors and Crew Chiefs, and may be assigned supervisory responsibilities.

The Transmission/Distribution Electrical Engineer is a key member of management staff in the Company’s Electric Division. The BPU staff is comprised of approximately 35 management employees, as well as approximately100 union employees in three separate bargaining units.

The BPU Board has set the salary range for this position at $61,712 to $86,396. The BPU offers a competitive benefit package, including participation in the New York State Retirement System.

This is a Civil Service Competitive position. The successful candidate will be required to take a New York Civil Service examination administered by the County of Chautauqua.
